As EFT is a self help tool you can use it yourself on anything and everything, in essence, you can quickly become your own EFT Practitioner. People can achieve remarkable results working on themselves. It is amazing that with very little knowledge anyone can help themselves heal. My journey with EFT started with learning how to tap from a YouTube video and I immediately started to feel better!
I advise all clients to tap for at least 5 minutes every day as a method of self management for any stress that may have built up, and it is incredibly effective to use ‘in the moment’ if a difficult emotional situation arises. For example if you have to make a difficult phone call tap while you are on the phone – nobody needs to know!
This can also apply very well to children if they have had a difficult day at school – talk through their issue with them and tap with them at the same time. I do this with my son every evening. You will be amazed by the results!
Why See an EFT Practitioner?
This could be for a number of reasons. Sometimes it is difficult to know where to start, you may be experiencing feelings of helplessness or overwhelm. Or you may be stuck, unable to unravel the underlying issues causing you distress. This is very common and what we are here for.
Trauma can distort our experience of the present and ‘bend reality’ for the entire fabric of our being. Trauma is anything that overwhelms us. Often when we have experienced trauma our perceptions are altered that we need help and support to guide us along a path to well-being again.
We often suppress or hide from our negative feelings as its a natural human instinct in order to survive. Perhaps we go on for years kidding ourselves that we are ‘fine’ when in reality we are storing huge trauma or sadness which is creating deep patterns of unhappiness or even physical symptoms (such as pain) in the body.
An experienced EFT Practitioner will be able to stand objectively on the outside and look in with a clear and incisive view and help guide you to resolution. They will also be able to offer a fresh perspective , often on something that was decided as a child but was retained into adulthood and no longer serves you.
Severe trauma can be locked away so deeply and skilfully that we are unable to access it, until something happens to trigger it and we are left with extreme anxiety or depression or we turn to addictive behaviours (smoking, alcohol, food, sex, catastrophic thoughts etc) to cope.
A skilled EFT practitioner will hold the client in a safe place while gently allowing these inner conflicts surface and be shifted from the system WITHOUT re-experiencing the original trauma. As a survivor of complex PTSD and emotional abuse myself I know how important safety is and it is always my top priority with every client.
When we feel safe we can release and move on.
